PCORI Board Approves Draft Proposal for Peer Review and Release of Primary Research Findings
Next Steps Include Issuing Draft for Public Comment
WASHINGTON, Sept. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors today approved for public comment PCORI's proposed process for peer review and public release of its primary research findings. The public comment period opens today and runs through Friday, Nov. 7.
The draft outlines how PCORI proposes to meet its legislative mandate to conduct peer review of the primary research it funds and make the findings publicly available within a specific timeframe. The effort is part of a broader "open science" framework that PCORI is developing to promote transparency and data sharing within the research community and the general public.
Comments collected during the public comment period will be analyzed to determine whether any revisions are needed to provide a final proposed process to PCORI's Board to consider for adoption in February or March 2015.
"Our proposed peer review process and open science framework aim to advance the transparency and quality of useful new evidence," said PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby, MD, MPH. "We expect to benefit greatly from input during the public comment period for the draft peer review proposal and we look forward to issuing the final process."
The draft peer review proposal and slides from today's Board meeting are available on PCORI's website. To provide maximum opportunities for interested stakeholders to provide comment, PCORI plans an extensive outreach effort, including a public forum on Monday, Sept. 29, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Registration and an agenda for the forum can be found at PCORI's website.
