PCCD Presents Crime Prevention Award to Pittsburgh-area Police Chief
HARRISBURG, Pa., July 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency today presented the 2010 Chief of Police Crime Prevention Award to John Mackey, chief of the Bethel Park Police Department in Allegheny County.
This award, a joint endeavor of PCCD and the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, honors a municipal police chief for making exceptional contributions to community crime prevention efforts.
Chief Mackey has led the Bethel Park Police Department since 2000. He has supported and administered a number of crime prevention and community outreach programs, including senior citizen safety programs, identity theft awareness programs, the development and launch of a new website, and the revitalization of the Citizen Police Academy, a ten-week course that allows residents and business owners to learn about the police department.
Mackey also supported the Swift Reach Community Notification program, which makes emergency notifications to residents and businesses within the community, and the Police Pals program that offers elementary school students information on school bus safety, safety tips and bullying prevention.
Mackey received the award during the annual Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Education and Training Conference in Lancaster.
