PCCA Awards Charlene Vernak, RPh, the George Roentsch Scholarship
Annual Scholarship Awarded to Independent Pharmacist Who Embodies Roentsch's Innovative and Sharing Nature
HOUSTON, Oct. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Charlene Vernak, RPh, of Vernak Farms Pharmacy in Skaneateles, New York, recently was awarded the George Roentsch Scholarship by the Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA). Vernak received the award in Houston during PCCA's International Seminar, held October 8-10, 2014. The scholarship is awarded annually to an independent pharmacist and PCCA member who embodies the innovative and sharing nature of George Roentsch, a well-known pharmacist in the compounding community.
George Roentsch, RPh, was owner/pharmacist of The Apothecary in Keene, New Hampshire, and is fondly remembered for his work, which advanced the art and science of custom-made prescription medications. Roentsch was passionate about compounding and generously shared many of his compounding formulas and innovations with fellow compounders.
Vernak was nominated for the George Roenstch Scholarship by her peers. She was chosen for the scholarship because of her dedication to high-quality compounding, outreach to the community, enthusiasm for continuing education and collaboration with fellow compounding pharmacists.
"I am very humbled to receive the George Roentsch Scholarship. It is an amazing award to win and it honors George, who was an amazing compounding pharmacist," said Vernak. "I know that I would not be where I am in the profession without the support of other compounders in the community, and I am grateful to PCCA for fostering an environment that encourages education and the sharing of knowledge."
Located in Skaneateles, New York, Vernak Farms is a country store and compounding pharmacy. The Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB)-accredited pharmacy department opened in 2010 and makes high-quality, customized prescriptions that focus on optimal patient outcomes.
