PITTSBURGH March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- TJL Productions announced today that PBS will broadcast WHEN IRISH EYES ARE SMILING – AN IRISH PARADE OF STARS throughout March in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. The latest installment of PBS' popular "My Music" series presents a nostalgic journey back to the 1950s and 1960s featuring long-unseen footage of beloved entertainers singing some of the greatest songs from and inspired by Ireland.
The program opens on the streets of Dublin with legendary crooner Bing Crosby offering a pair of Irish folk standards, "Molly Malone" and "McNamara's Band." Then Academy Award-nominated actor Robert Mitchum joins the Ames Brothers for a rare rendition of "Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral (That's An Irish Lullaby)." Other highlights include classic performances from folk songbird Judy Collins, The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem, and Carmel Quinn, star of "The Arthur Godfrey Show." Plus, there is a memorable rendition of "It's A Great Day For The Irish" featuring Rosemary Clooney, Maureen O'Hara, Pat Rooney, and iconic TV host Ed Sullivan.
The program concludes with a pair of more recent performances by "Ireland's Golden Tenor" Frank Patterson, who sings a stirring tale of Irish history, "The Fields Of Athenry," and the beautiful evergreen "Danny Boy."
Hosted by Academy Award-winning actress Patty Duke and written by celebrated actor and author Malachy McCourt, the program is a comforting reminder of the warm personalities and enduring sounds that have traveled from Ireland to America.
