"This is something Jocelyn and I feel very strongly about," Casey told media members on hand at the Dick Harmon Learning Center, which doubles as the Media Center during the Shell Houston Open.
Casey's donation reflects the Shell Houston Open's goal of providing a chance for the children of Houston through the support of local youth charities. The tournament, and its related activities, has provided more than $48 million to more than 200 local charities since Shell Oil Company became the title sponsor in 1992.
The Shell Houston Open supports six core charities -- the Boys and Girls Harbor, Ins., Interfaith of the Woodlands, The Chinquapin School, Make a Wish Foundation of the Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana, Inc., The Cenikor Foundation, Inc., and the Acres Home Youth Association.
"Shell is proud to be a part of the Shell Houston Open," said Jesse Saldivar, Sr. Advisor, US Business Affairs, Shell Oil Company, who attended the event on behalf of Shell. "We think about this tournament and our partnership with the HGA as a way to give back to the community. The Shell Houston Open has benefited more than 1 million children in the Houston area, and I am glad to see Paul supporting what this tournament stands for."
The tournament also brings an estimated $25 million dollars of economic impact to Houston each year. This March, Shell will provide an even bigger boost to Houston's economy by hosting both the 2010 Shell Houston Open and the 2010 Shell Eco-marathon Americas energy challenge here, bringing the "energy capitol of the world" to center stage
"The City of Houston is honored to be the US hometown of a world-class company like Shell," said Annise D. Parker, Mayor of Houston. "It is truly remarkable and wonderful to have another company here that cares about the city and works to make it a better place for even our youngest Houstonians."
The 2010 Shell Houston Open will officially kick off in a few weeks on March 29th at the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course.
