FREEHOLD, N.J., Dec. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute's Advanced Health and Wellness Center is encouraging patients who have questions concerning their direct to consumer genetic test results to schedule an appointment. The announcement comes in response to what AOSMI representatives say is an uptick of patients interested in better understanding the results of genetic testing, and in particular the results of direct to consumer genetic testing.

The FDA recently approved a popular direct to consumer genetic test--the first such test to earn approval in the US. While direct to consumer tests normally come with reporting, it can be challenging for patients to understand how to make practical use of these findings, according to Dr. Neil Paulvin, MD, who heads the Integrative Wellness Center at AOSMI.
"We're happy to review direct to consumer test results, and answer any questions you may have. We love working with patients to craft health and fitness plans based off their results--long term plans that use the insight from their testing to help them feel their best," says Dr. Paulvin.
AOSMI offers genetic testing through its Integrative Wellness Center. Patients with test results from a previous care provider are welcome to bring their results in as well, AOSMI confirms. Dr. Paulvin notes that these tests from previous providers can be a great way to get started with a new specialist for those who have recently moved or needed to switched healthcare providers for insurance reasons.
"Genetic tests offer us more insight into patients' backgrounds, and provide a great 'jumping off' point to start and structure conversations about health goals, concerns, and more," said Dr. Paulvin.
