Patient Safety Grants Available to Providers Working to Improve Efficiency, Quality
Cardinal Health Foundation Calls for Applicants to E3 Grant Program
DUBLIN, Ohio, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cardinal Health Foundation is currently accepting applications for grant funding from U.S., Canadian and Puerto Rican hospitals, health systems, community health clinics and other non-profit health care institutions to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and excellence of patient care.
Cardinal Health Foundation E3 Grant Program applicants are encouraged to submit funding requests for projects that will improve medication safety, particularly as patients move from hospital environments to home and other health care settings; the spread of previously successful projects to additional hospitals, systems or ambulatory settings; or mobile health, particularly the use of smartphones, apps, tablets, remote monitoring and telehealth through consumer devices to treat patients outside of the hospital.
"We continue to be encouraged by the outcomes from the E3 Grant Program, particularly in averted errors, reduced readmissions and significant cost savings. Hospitals, clinics and collaboratives have made a huge difference in patient safety with this funding," said Dianne Radigan, vice president of Community Relations at Cardinal Health. "The recent outcomes are so strong that we are suggesting some institutions consider applying for funding to help spread their best practices beyond their institutions. We see this work as moving from the implementation of best practices in isolated health care settings to further spread of the good work to many other settings and further accelerating the rate of change."
Applicants are strongly encouraged to refer to the American Society of Health System Pharmacists for best practices for improving medication safety. Those interested in spreading previously successful work should review the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's work on spread.
Prospective grantees can find summaries from successful E3 Grant Program proposals and a list of 2014 winners on the E3 Patient Safety Grant Program page of the Cardinal Health Community Relations website. Case studies highlighting the results of several previously successful grants are also available on the site.
Applications for E3 grants must be submitted on the Cardinal Health community website by Dec. 5.
Over the past seven years, the Foundation has invested more than $7 million in funding to 241 hospitals, health systems or other health-related organizations. These projects have produced an average 11:1 return on our investment from errors averted or readmissions reduced.
