Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Will Discuss Approval of Revised National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda at Denver Board Meeting
WASHINGTON, May 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) will discuss for approval its first National Priorities for Research and initial Research Agenda at a public meeting of its Board of Governors May 21 in Denver.
PCORI's Board of Governors accepted changes to the draft Research Agenda in a public teleconference April 25 in response to 15 major themes identified from more than 450 public comments the institute received. The Board has not amended its draft National Priorities for Research because the comments did not identify significant gaps in the five proposed priorities. Both will be discussed for final approval in Denver, a step required before PCORI can fund primary research.
"The National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda are the framework to guide PCORI's funding of comparative clinical effectiveness research," said PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby, MD, MPH. "We greatly appreciate the valuable input patients and the public have provided and we're ready to build a research portfolio that will produce high-quality information designed to better meet the needs of patients and those who care for them."
PCORI will commit approximately $120 million of primary research funding by the end of the year, in addition to $30 million awarded for PCORI Pilot Projects. PCORI's Board of Governors approved the Pilot Project awards, to research institutions in 24 states and the District of Columbia, on April 25.
The Board meeting will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. MT at the Renaissance Denver hotel.
The meeting is open to the public and includes a 30-minute public comment period at 3:15 p.m. Individuals can register to provide comment on site or by sending an email to PCORI at [email protected].
The meeting also will include updates on:
- PCORI's strategic plan;
- The draft PCORI Methodology Report and plans for its public comment period;
- PCORI's 2012 plans for engaging patients and stakeholders; and
- PCORI's Standing Committee on Conflict of Interest.
Individuals unable to attend the meeting in person can participate via a webcast accessible through PCORI's website, pcori.org.
