Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Will Consider Revised Definition of 'Patient-Centered Outcomes Research' at Baltimore Board Meeting
WASHINGTON, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) will consider for approval a revised working definition of 'patient-centered outcomes research' at a public meeting of its Board of Governors on Monday, March 5 in Baltimore, Md.
A working group of PCORI Methodology Committee and Board members has edited a draft definition in response to feedback received through a public comment period and focus groups of patients and caregivers. The full Board will consider the proposed revised definition during Monday's meeting.
"Defining patient-centered outcomes research provides guidance for our organization, patients and stakeholders about the unique research we will fund," said PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby, M.D., M.P.H. "Our Methodology Committee and Board members have given thoughtful consideration to the input we've received and we look forward to discussing it in public. This is a living definition and we will revisit it in the future, as needed, as this field of research grows and the needs of patients and those who care for them evolve."
The Board meeting will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST in the Whitehall Ballroom of the Intercontinental Harbor Court hotel. The meeting is open to the public and includes two 30-minute public comment periods at 11:00 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Individuals can register to provide comment on site or by sending an email to PCORI at [email protected].
