Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Seeks Specific Research Questions from Patients and Stakeholders
PCORI Opens Web Survey to Receive Suggestions for Research Topics Directly from the Health Care Community
WASHINGTON, Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is now offering patients, caregivers and the broader health care community an opportunity to submit specific research questions for incorporation into future PCORI funding announcements. As part of its effort to refine its National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda, PCORI is accepting recommendations for research topics through a survey tool on its website.
"We are committed to developing a research portfolio that answers the real-world questions patients and those who care for them face every day," said PCORI's Executive Director Joe Selby, M.D., M.P.H. "Soliciting research questions directly from the people our work is intended to support is an important step to ensuring our research translates into better-informed decision making and higher quality outcomes."
PCORI is seeking research questions about prevention, diagnosis and treatment options faced by patients, as well as questions that would help to improve health care delivery, address disparities in health care, or improve the communication of research findings.
All members of the public are invited to submit a research question. Submissions can be entered by completing a simple survey on the PCORI website.
Each recommendation PCORI receives will be carefully evaluated through a five-step process to determine whether it should be included in a future funding announcement. Targeted funding announcements, inviting proposals to address questions selected through the process, will be issued beginning in 2013.
