Patient Advocate Foundation Partners with MyLifeLine.org to Increase Patient Support
Free, Personalized Websites Connect Cancer Patients to Family, Friends
HAMPTON, Va., July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF), a national non-profit organization that seeks to safeguard patients through effective mediation assuring access to care, maintenance of employment and preservation of their financial stability relative to their diagnosis of life threatening or debilitating diseases, today announced a new partnership with MyLifeLine.org, a non-profit organization that believes a strong support community is critical for cancer patients and provides free, personal websites for cancer patients to connect with their family and friends during the treatment process.
"MyLifeLine.org fits perfectly with PAF's mission to provide helpful and convenient resources and information to cancer patients and their loved ones," said Erin Moaratty, Chief of External Communications of PAF. "By partnering with groups like MyLifeLine.org that share our commitment to improving the lives of cancer patients and their families, we hope to help more patients access the quality care and support they need and deserve."
MyLifeLine.org was founded in 2007 by Marcia Donziger after she became aware of a young cancer patient who was using online tools to stay in touch with family and friends during her illness. Through her own personal website, the patient posted her progress and courageously inspired all who followed her struggle. Over time, Marcia saw the tremendous benefit for cancer patients to communicate via a personal website by sharing updates and managing care messages.
"Our team is grateful for strategic partners like Patient Advocate Foundation which served nearly 83,000 individual patients in 2010, 71.21 percent of which were cancer patients," said Kim Jewett, Director of Strategic Partnerships for MyLifeLine.org. "Partnerships with organizations such as PAF expand our ability to reach more people and improve patient outcomes, because a strong support community is critical to healing and recovery."
