NEW YORK, March 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- PathPoint will be recognized by Mutual of America for its Behavioral Health Residential Support Services program during a special hometown luncheon and award presentation at the Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore in Santa Barbara on Thursday, March 31 at 12:00 p.m.
The program was named a Merit Finalist Award recipient in Mutual of America's 2015 Community Partnership Award competition, which received entries from organizations nationwide. As one of 10 finalists in the competition, PathPoint received a monetary award from Mutual of America.
Since 1964, PathPoint has provided training and support services that empower people with disabilities and/or other disadvantages to live and work as valued members of their communities. In 2006, the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara (HACSB) invited PathPoint to collaborate in a unique plan to address chronic homelessness by pairing the creation of stable, affordable housing (managed by HACSB) with on-site support services provided by PathPoint.
PathPoint's Behavioral Health Residential Support Services program began with the El Carrillo project, which houses 61 formerly homeless residents. Today, this and two other developments feature on-site supportive services, such as activities to help increase daily living skills and intensive support for substance abuse issues.
"The Behavioral Health Residential Support Services program has provided more than 200 formerly homeless individuals a pathway to recovery, wellness and hope," said Cynthia Burton, President and Chief Executive Officer of PathPoint. "By giving our most vulnerable citizens access to crucial social support services and a place to call home, the program is helping them to make healthy choices, realize new strengths and reach personal goals."
