In the US, the market for universal remote control devices is estimated to reach $1.8 billion by 2012.(1) Growth in this market can likely be attributed to consumer frustrations with the lack of standardization across device controllers. Managing an entertainment system for example, becomes a complex task as users are forced to navigate the system through multiple remote controls. This lot discloses a universal remote control device with programmable switches that enables a user to store preferred input sources for different devices thereby eliminating the need for multiple remote controls. Patent 7,508,460 of the lot presents an even broader scope of the technology by enabling device control directly from the TV or from the remote control device.
Dean Becker, ICAP Ocean Tomo CEO stated, "This technology will not only make it easier for consumers, it will also help them get the most out of their devices. Entities involved in manufacturing television systems, home theatre systems, projection devices, gaming consoles, and remote control devices should all consider this portfolio a valuable asset."
