Patagonia Launches Common Threads Worn Wear™ Program in Salt Lake City
CUSTOMERS CAN NOW TRADE IN USED PATAGONIA CLOTHING FOR CREDIT, RESALE SECTIONS TO OPEN LATE SEPTEMBER
SALT LAKE CITY, June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Patagonia, Inc., a leading designer of core outdoor, surf and sport-related apparel, equipment, footwear and accessories, announced today the expansion of its Worn Wear™ used clothing program in eight stores. Based on the success of the pilot program at the company's Portland store, with 884 items sold and 612 items traded in, the expanded program gives customers the opportunity to earn credit for bringing in their gently-used clothing for resale in the Common Threads Worn Wear section of the store.

Patagonia's retail locations in Portland, Seattle, Palo Alto, Reno, Austin, Chicago (Lincoln Park), Salt Lake City and Denver are now accepting used Patagonia shells, fleece, down and synthetic insulation, and ski and alpine pants for trade-in. Items must be clean and in good condition, and customers can earn trade-in credit valued at 50 percent of the price of the item when it is sold through the store's Common Threads Worn Wear section. Credit can be redeemed for purchases in store or online at patagonia.com. The company expects to accumulate enough pre-owned merchandise to open a Worn Wear used clothing section in the eight store locations during late September.
"We've had a tremendous response to our pilot program launched in Portland last fall, so we're thrilled to be expanding the Worn Wear program into more stores," notes Vickie Achee, Patagonia's head of retail marketing. "Our customers love knowing they can find their gear a second home while earning credit toward new or used products for themselves, all while doing their part to reuse, recycle and keep Patagonia gear out of the landfill."
Worn Wear is part of Patagonia's Common Threads Partnership with its customers to take mutual responsibility for the full life of Patagonia products to Reduce, Repair, Reuse and Recycle. Over 60,000 customers have taken the Common Threads Pledge by which customers agree to buy only what they need, repair what breaks, reuse and share what they no longer need and recycle the rest. Patagonia pledges to build useful things that last, repair what breaks and recycle items that customers return.
"By taking the Common Threads Pledge, our customers and our company together achieve the fifth 'R' in which we Reimagine a world where we take from it only what nature can replenish," says Rick Ridgeway, Patagonia's VP of Environmental Affairs.
Each participating Worn Wear retail location will host special in-store kick off events later this fall. Contact Patagonia Salt Lake City for more details or follow them on Facebook:
