Pass the BBA Thanks Reps. Buchanan and Goodlatte for their Leadership on the BBA
PHOENIX, Jan. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pass the BBA congratulated Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Vern Buchanan (R-FL) for their leadership on fiscal issues, and their swift moves to introduce balanced budget legislation in the House of Representatives as the 112th Congress convened.
"As most people in Washington celebrated the swearing-in of a new Congress, Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Vern Buchanan (R-FL) were already hard at work, introducing balanced budget amendment bills. We are grateful they have taken leadership roles on this issue and we look forward to helping them in the fight to bring fiscal sanity to Washington," said Ken Blackwell, National Chairman of Pass the BBA.
These bills will require key items, such as a 3/5 vote for any increases in the debt; that the President shall submit a balanced budget to Congress; and that any legislation to increase revenue must be passed by a true majority of each chamber and not just a majority of those present and voting. Both bills make common sense exceptions to these provisions in times of military conflicts.
"With their leadership on this issue in the House and Sen. Lee's efforts in the Senate, the American people will finally get the change they voted for. We have a challenging fight ahead of us, and we know the big spending interests will fight this tooth and nail, but we have confidence that the voters who demanded an end to 'business as usual' continue to make their voices heard," concluded Blackwell.
Pass the BBA has emerged as the leading advocate for a federal balanced budget amendment (BBA) and is focused on having a vote on the BBA by October 1, 2011, which is the beginning of the next fiscal year. Pass the BBA is a non-partisan, grassroots movement actively gathering 5,000 to 10,000 voter signatures in all 435 congressional districts demanding fiscal accountability from their leaders. The Hon. Ken Blackwell and former Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner serve as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively.
