Parkopedia, the world's largest parking service provider, announced today the launch of HAD Parking Maps - its indoor mapping services following the successful completion of pilot projects in partnership with the Volkswagen Group Research.
Using high resolution 3D data capturing technology developed by Navvis (Munich), Parkopedia has created HAD Parking Maps for complex, multi-storey parking facilities. The maps enable vehicles to not only position themselves while driving indoors with a precision of 1 centimeter, but also to navigate in fully automated mode.
Parkopedia plans to further invest in and develop the technologies behind HAD Parking Maps, before they can be rolled out on a global scale. HAD Parking Maps will be made available in a NDS compatible format.
Commenting on the project, Parkopedia's COO Dr. Hans Puvogel said "We are honoured to have been part of this journey with Volkswagen Group Research in order to create innovative and ground breaking parking solutions for fully automated vehicles. The self-parking car of the future will need excellent data to find the right parking spot, transaction capabilities to book and/or pay for it and indoor navigation capabilities. This project effectively demonstrates how Parkopedia is leading in the development of parking services for the automated vehicle of the future."
Parkopedia's CEO, Eugene Tsyrklevich, added "As the automotive industry rushes to Level 3-5 automation, one area, which is attracting a rapidly increasing level of attention is that of parking. As a result, the right parking solutions will be critical for automakers as a way to differentiate and not become commoditized in a world of autonomous vehicles."
