Parker and Sons Offers Alternative Heating Ideas for the Winter Season
PHOENIX, Oct. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite living in a desert, Phoenix can become quite cold once the sun goes down. To that effect, Parker and Sons, one of Arizona's top quality HVAC, plumbing, and electrical service providers, have offered local residents some alternative home heating ideas to try out this season.

"Working in HVAC, we've seen some pretty interesting heating devices throughout our years of serving the community," said Parker and Sons representative Josh Kelly. One of these alternative devices that Parker and Sons professionals have seen are pellet stoves. These stoves, which are similar to wood burning stoves, create heat through burning small pellets from switchgrass or sawdust. Although these tend to be found in areas with colder climates than what we usually get in Phoenix, they can save a lot of money in the long term if you're willing to make a hefty, one time investment.
Fireplaces, whether wood burning or electric, are also a great, alternative way to heat your home. "It would be nice to see more people taking advantage of fireplaces. I think that they are a great addition to any home. Not only in terms of adding to furnishing, but they are extremely practical," said Kelly. It is important, however, to make sure that there is a protective barrier covering your fireplace, so that children and animals don't get too close and injure themselves. Likewise, no fireplace should be used until the chimney is thoroughly cleaned.
Another interesting heating device that Parker and Sons have seen over the years are propane-fueled heaters. You've most likely seen these being sold at places like Costco and Sam's Club, with their large, circular heating panels that oscillate like regular fans. While these are a low-cost alternative to heating, they aren't the most reliable, and should be turned off at night to avoid overuse and overheating.
While these alternative heating methods work well for some, they aren't for everyone. Kelly stresses that if you choose to use any of these ideas, to know that unlike regular HVAC systems, they tend to be less safe and less reliable. For any of your heating needs this winter, call a Parker and Sons professional to assist you and keep you warm this season.
