Parker & Sons Speaks on the Dangers of Mold and Mildew
PHOENIX, May 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --The growth of mold or mildew in the home can be a very major problem. If mold and mildew are allowed to grow unchecked, homeowners could be facing much more than massive cleanup. Large mold or mildew infestations may necessitate home repairs which could cost upwards of thousands of dollars. Not only can mold and mildew cause severe property damage, but prolonged exposure has also been linked to several major health concerns allergies and respiratory problems. Mold and mildew thrive in damp locations such as bathrooms and basements. Occasionally, growths can be found in HVAC vents as well. Mold growth inside HVAC vents is particularly dangerous as the HVAC unit can end up delivering mold spores to every corner of the home.

Parker & Sons advises if homeowners believe they may have mold or mildew growth within their HVAC system they should first check the HVAC register. If mold or mildew is already growing on the register, that is a sure sign of growth elsewhere in the HVAC system, likely in the ducts. Even with a clean register, a problem may still exist. Individuals should play close attention to any smells or odors which emanate from their air ducts. If visual signs of mold are present, homeowners will have little need to perform a mold test. If there is an odor, but no visual signs of mold a qualified mold tester should be hired.
If mold or mildew growth has been identified, immediate steps should be taken to see to its removal. To ensure that mold is 100 percent eradicated from the duct system, individuals should hire a company that specializes in mold cleaning and removal. If even a trace is left behind, the infestation could grow back. It is possible for a homeowner to remove mold from HVAC ducts without the aid of a professional. However, this is a highly involved process which needs to be thoroughly researched before it is attempted.
"Because the desert is so dry, we don't have to worry too much about mold growing in HVAC ducts. The fact that it doesn't happen often doesn't mean that it never happens, though. What It does mean, is that few people pay attention to the problem, so if it does occur, it may get wildly out of control before anyone notices," said Josh Kelly of Parker & Sons.
