Park Water Company executive to advise Environmental Protection Agency
DOWNEY, Calif., July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeanne-Marie Bruno, Park Water Company (Park) General Manager, has been invited to serve as an advisor to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Drinking Water Advisory Council (NDWAC), a strategic committee devoted to safe drinking water. Bruno, a civil and environmental engineer with over 30 years of experience in the water industry, will serve a three-year term on the prestigious NDWAC, which selects distinguished professionals from around the country.
A Diversity of People and Views
The Council provides practical, independent advice to the EPA, regarding drinking water regulations and guidance required by the Safe Drinking Water Act. Members of the council are comprised of individuals from the general public, governmental agencies, private groups, and organizations concerned with safe drinking water. A diversity of council member viewpoints is welcomed, whether in matters related to policy, emerging environmental or health problems, public awareness or recommendations on special studies and research.
"We are pleased that she will have a pivotal advisory role to the EPA," said Park CEO Chris Schilling. "This clearly demonstrates the trust that the EPA has in our understanding of issues relating to drinking water quality and public health protection."
The Consensus-Building Tool
The council is accountable to the public by maximizing public access to their deliberations while minimizing the influence of special interests with balanced membership. Federal advisory groups under the EPA constitute an important tool for building consensus and providing input on behalf of the agency's diverse customers, partners and stakeholders. Members such as Bruno are selected based on their experience, accomplishments and ability to develop new ideas that meet EPA parameters.
Experience in Key Areas
Bruno holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University. She served as acting Associate Director of Water Quality at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. In her role at Park, she oversees water utility operations that span seven Southeast Los Angeles communities. Bruno is a registered Civil Engineer in California and holds Grade 5 certifications in both Water Treatment and Distribution Operations.
