Raul Magdaleno and Parents Step Ahead plan to use part of the $25,000 grant to fund monthly educational seminars for parents at local schools. The remaining portion will establish a partnership with Southern Methodist University's Hispanic Youth Symposium to create a parental leadership component to the student-based program. The parental leadership component would focus on training and educating parents on a variety of topics such as college preparation, test taking skills, importance of continuing their education and financial sustainability.
