Paralyzed Veterans of America Offers Job Placement Support to Veterans During Employment Event
Award-winning veterans employment program connects veterans and transitioning service members with employers at free events
WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Leading veterans service organization, Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans), today announced its launch of a series of veteran employment events. The upcoming 2018 event will be hosted on February 7th in Tampa, Florida. During the event, Paralyzed Veterans' Paving Access for Veterans Employment (PAVE) program will serve veterans, transitioning service members, spouses and caregivers by connecting them with local and national employers.
Finding employment after active duty is a top concern for veterans. According to the Department of Labor Statistics, nearly 450,000 veterans were unemployed in 2016. While their military experience may be extensive, it is often the inability to translate these skills to the civilian equivalent that can present significant barriers to gainful employment opportunities post transition.
"PAVE events are a rich environment for a job opportunity," said Leon Mallery, Air Force veteran and PAVE participant that secured a job as a result of a past PAVE event. "There are employers eager to spend one-on-one time with you and see if there's a way you can fit into their organization."
The PAVE employment events will bring PAVE counselors, employers and other relevant resources together, working one-on-one with local veterans, transitioning service members and spouses to help them identify employment opportunities and access other valuable resources and tools that will enhance their job search.
"Our goal is to help remove every possible barrier to employment and educational opportunities," said PAVE Director Shelly Stewart. "With the right support network, information and resources, we know that our veterans are empowered to achieve their career goals, whatever those goals might be. Veterans have relevant, in-demand skills and experience and our certified vocational counselors are well-equipped to help veterans translate those skills to leverage new opportunities."
The Tampa event will include interactive job-seeker workshops covering a variety of job search tools and strategies and employer networking opportunities. Featured local and national employers will also host panel discussions that are tailored to veterans' employment needs. Registration for the event is free and open to all veterans, transitioning service members, caregivers and spouses.
