parago Holiday Shopping Research: Shoppers Will Drive Out of Their Way For Better Deals
83% of shoppers surveyed find online and in-store rebates attractive
LEWISVILLE, Texas, Sept. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The holiday shopping season is nearly upon us, and retailers looking for new ways to incent shoppers should consider rebates to drive foot traffic and boost margins. New shopper research from parago shows that consumers are still sensitive to price, so they're willing to drive at least five to 10 minutes out of their way to get a better deal.
"With the holidays fast approaching, retailers are looking for new ways to increase foot traffic and account for the shift to online retail. They know customers have high expectations for deals when they come in store, but what they may not know is that customers will drive a bit further to find those deals," said Rodney Mason, CMO of parago, a global incentives and engagement company. "With rebates, retailers can offer these deal-hungry customers the very lowest price, but also protect margins, unlike across-the-board discounting or online price matching."
The parago shopper study "Ring Up More Holiday Sales" shows consumers have positive attitudes about rebates and prefer using mobile devices to redeem those rebates. The infographic with more details can be downloaded for free here. Key findings include:
- Worth the drive: 81% of consumers would drive 5–10 minutes out of their way for a $10 rebate on a $50 item
- Rebates and smartphones are a great mix: 80% of shoppers would like to use their smartphone to submit rebates
- Rebates work both online and in-store: 83% of consumers said they found rebates attractive for both online and in-store purchases
- Rebates are easy: 72% of consumers find rebates easy to use
To identify holiday retail trends, parago conducted this shopper research during the 2013 holiday season. More than 1,400 adults representative of the US consumer population responded to this original online survey.
