Paoli Design Business Wins Top Honors At International Design Contest

PAOLI, Pa., June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Local decorator and business owner, Sarah Hermans recently received her company’s highest design award – the coveted Decorator of the Year award.  Presented by Decorating Den Interiors, at the company’s 42nd annual conference, held in Phoenix, Arizona, this award recognizes Ms. Hermans’ business for her outstanding design work.  In addition to being named Decorator of the Year, Ms. Hermans also received a first place award for her dramatic living room entry, which received the highest number of votes out of over 250 contest entries.

Vice President and Director of Design for Decorating Den Interiors, Carol Donayre Bugg commented on Hermans’ winning entry: “Mrs. Herman’s award winning living room was the overwhelming choice of our national editors.  Her dramatic makeover is not only a testament to her fabulous design skills, but her outstanding ability to listen to her clients.”

Hermans’ design work was judged in two separate contests…one held in New York City and the other at the April High Point Furniture Market.  Entries were judged by over 30 top home furnishing magazine editors, from such publications as, Better Homes & Gardens, Traditional Home, House Beautiful, More, Midwest Living  and Good Housekeeping.  Winners were selected based on their design excellence, creative problem solving, and overall presentation.

“My client’s vision for their living room was simple.  She wanted a room of her own, and she wanted it to be grown up, warm, sophisticated and classic.  As a homemaker who takes care of everyone else, this was her first chance to have her design tastes and preferences to come to life.  We chose a soft and creamy color scheme layered with sable, bronze and coffee, and added as many upholstered pieces as possible to accommodate her entertaining needs.  It was a fabulous project, and she was thrilled to hear about the awards.” said Ms.Hermans.

Celebrating her second successful year in business, Ms.Hermans contributes her many successes to her overall design philosophy.  She believes that good design should be smart and simple.  Ms. Hermans thoroughly enjoys working collaboratively with each client to create spaces that are both beautiful and functional and has just completed a two room project at the Oxford Art Alliance Show House in Chadds Ford, PA.
