Panopto Announces Major Update to Enterprise Video Platform
Panopto 5.0 transforms smartphones into AV remote controls, introduces multi-camera live streaming for Mac OS, and brings DVR capabilities to live webcasts
SEATTLE, Dec. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Panopto today announced a major update to its enterprise video platform. Panopto 5.0 brings unique functionality to smartphones and tablets, enabling any authorized user to control video recordings and live webcasts in smart classrooms and conference rooms. The release also expands Panopto's live streaming and multi-camera recording capabilities to Mac OS, and introduces pause and rewind functionality for live webcasts.
Smartphones Become Remote Controls for Video Recording and Broadcasting
In recent years, businesses and universities have been outfitting conference rooms and classrooms with professional video recording systems. Unfortunately, many employees never realize the benefits of these systems because they're too hard to use without support from the AV team.
Panopto 5.0 makes room recording easy with the introduction of Remote Control. Remote Control transforms the way that organizations manage their recording infrastructure. It turns mobile devices into touch panels that anyone can use to preview and control professional video recording systems.
Using Remote Control, any employee can walk into a smart classroom or conference room, launch the Panopto Mobile app on their iOS or Android device, see themselves on camera, and click Record. An indicator light confirms that the recording has started, and Panopto automatically publishes the finished recording to a secure video portal where it can be shared with others and watched on any device.
"Smartphones have become the hub of the Internet of Things," said Eric Burns, co-founder and CEO of Panopto. "Just as you can control your GoPro, your TV, or even your thermostat from your mobile device, now you can control Panopto rooms. With Remote Control, we've made it easy for people who aren't AV professionals to make great recordings with studio-quality equipment."
The Easiest Way to Live Stream Video Presentations from Mac OS
For years, Panopto has provided the easiest solution for live streaming high quality presentations from any Windows PC. In Panopto 5.0, all of the capabilities previously available to Windows users are now available on the Mac.
Panopto 5.0 for Mac OS is built for simplicity. It enables anyone to easily broadcast a presentation or event to a worldwide audience. Users can live stream the content of their computer screen as well as video from webcams, professional cameras, and a range of other compatible devices. Using Panopto's built-in support for multiple video feeds, businesses can easily broadcast multi-camera events and universities can record lectures that consist of the instructor, their screen, and a document camera.
Once the webcast is complete, Panopto publishes it in seconds to a secure video portal for on-demand playback. All live broadcasts and on-demand recordings are delivered using Panopto's modern video streaming.
Pause and Rewind Live Webcasts
Also new in Panopto 5.0 is a DVR service that enables viewers to pause and rewind live webcasts. If an employee shows up thirty minutes late to a one-hour presentation, they can rewind, catch the beginning, and then watch the event in its entirety.
The service also eliminates the delay typically associated with publishing live webcasts for on-demand playback. As a result, anyone who misses the live event has instant access to the recording.
All of the new capabilities introduced in Panopto 5.0 are available at no additional cost to Panopto customers. More information what's new can be found on Panopto's video platform blog.
