CHICAGO, Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Panasonic NB-G110P Flash Xpress Toaster Oven ($149.95) claims to cook "40% faster" with "double infrared light," but it fails to impress most members of The Viewpoints Blogger Reviews Panel, who question its design, safety and durability.

Pros: No pre-heating, quick and even results
A key difference with the Panasonic NB-G110P toaster oven is that there's no pre-heating. "Once you turn it on and set the temperature, you can put the food into the oven immediately. I loved the heating capabilities of this toaster oven," writes Sheila Hill of Pieces Of A Mom. Speed is a plus, and food comes out crisp.
Cons: Bright light, design, durability
The on-off button, pre-set cooking buttons and the infrared light are less popular. "Worst of all, while food cooks, that fabulous infrared technology means the interior light is like some creepy poltergeist, continually flashing on and off all by itself…Bye-bye kitchen ambience," says Randi Chapnik-Myers of momfaze.
The product manual says staring at the infrared light for a long time "could cause injury to your eyes." How I Pinch A Penny's Sarah Mock worries: "I was concerned to have my children around the toaster oven …As with all children they are loving bright flashy things so of course they were drawn to the toaster oven like moths to a flame."
The Panasonic NB-G110P Flash Xpress Toaster Oven measures 10 1/4" (H) x 13" (D) x 12" (D) and weighs only 7.5 lbs. In her post on The Midlife Second Wife, Marci Rich says it "looks like a toy. The Kenner Easy-Bake Oven I played with as a child surely had more heft and substance."
Amy Bradley-Hole of Freaky Perfect likes it more than most on the panel, but she hesitates to recommend it: "I never want to be without a toaster oven. But this one has some flaws. As do all toaster ovens. And it's expensive."
Summary
"Who could benefit from the Flash Xpress? College students living in dormitories, deployed military members in tight quarters, and seniors in assisted living. The oven is an excellent countertop substitute…However, for those of us with young children, that infrared light is a deal breaker," writes Kathy Zucker of Metro Moms Network.
"Whether you're shopping for a toaster oven, dishwasher, eReader or mattress, our community provides an authentic point of view on how products work in real-life situations," says Viewpoints General Manager Denise Chudy. "
