CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- CaseNEX, LLC is excited to announce that the states of West Virginia, Delaware, and Iowa accepted the Phonological Awareness LIteracy Screening (PALS) to their state lists of recommended literacy assessments. The state lists include literacy assessments recommended for screening, diagnosis, and progress monitoring that support implementation of the Response to Intervention (RtI) framework.
PALS assessments measure the fundamental components of literacy for PreKindergarten, Kindergarten, and grades 1-3. PALS also has strong technical adequacy and is highly predictive of future reading outcomes making it one of the highest rated instruments by the National Center on Response to Intervention. Furthermore, PALS provides instant data for all students, whether they may be at risk of future reading difficulty or are meeting or exceeding typical grade-level benchmarks.
Also from PALS for the 2014-2015 school year: PALS Plus and PALS espanol. The original PALS 1-3 assessment has been expanded to include grades 4-8, making it possible to use PALS for all elementary and middle grades, as well as for secondary students who are in need of reading instruction. PALS espanol was created to provide Spanish-speaking children in the United States equal access to an effective, research-based literacy assessment and is available for kindergarten and grades 1-3.
ABOUT PALS: PALS was developed by Marcia Invernizzi, Ph.D., and colleagues at the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education in response to the Commonwealth of Virginia's Early Intervention Reading Initiative (EIRI). PALS is utilized for early identification and intervention in all 50 states, as well as many foreign countries. PALS has remained the universal screening tool for Virginia public schools for over 15 years and has recently been mandated by the state of Wisconsin as the state's universal screening tool for Kindergarten through second grade students.
