Palo Alto University ready to celebrate graduations across the globe in June
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Palo Alto University, http://www.paloaltou.edu/, is busy preparing for its 2014 graduation celebrations around the world, with events being held this month in both California and Beijing, China.
June 7th – Ph.D & Psy.D Students
PAU's Ph.D and Psy.D graduation ceremony will take place on Saturday June 7th at Stanford University with PAU's provost, Dr William Froming, leading the celebrations as Master of Ceremony.
The commencement speaker, Captain Scott L. Johnston, serves as the director for the Naval Center for Combat & Operational Stress Control and he also serves as the assistant specialty leader for Navy Clinical Psychology. As a PAU alumnus, he received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, Palo Alto University. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at Harvard Medical School.
June 21st – Undergraduate & Master Degree students
The second ceremony, for Undergraduate and Master Degree students, will take place on Saturday June 21st, at the Flint Center, Cupertino and will again be led by Dr. William Froming.
Palo Alto Police Chief Dennis Burns will be the lead speaker. Chief Burns began his career with the Palo Alto Police Department in 1982 and was promoted to Police Chief in September 2009. He was appointed as Interim Fire Chief in July 2010, and with the hiring of a permanent Fire Chief in December 2012, he was appointed the Director of Public Safety.
Robert E. Kantor Medal
This Medal is awarded annually to outstanding leaders in the community, those who have led the way in terms of courage, vision, imagination and organization. The award is named after Dr. Robert Kantor who was the Founding President of Palo Alto University.
At the June 7th ceremony the Kantor Medal will be awarded to Paul N. McCloskey, an attorney specializing in condemnation actions. McCloskey was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to the U.S. Commission on National and Community Service in 1990 and served as its first Chairman.
At the June 21st ceremony, James William Cartwright will be presented with the Kantor Medal. Cartwright is a retired NBA player and former head coach of the Chicago Bulls. He attended Elk Grove High School and played basketball at the University of San Francisco.
Beijing Celebrating
On June 21st, PAU will also celebrate the first graduation ceremony for the Beijing-based Counselling Master Degree in China.
