BRIDGEPORT, Conn., Nov. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- PALMco Energy, a family-owned and -operated energy supply company, on Thursday participated in an all-day team building event for Habitat for Humanity Coastal Fairfield County. PALMco Energy team members volunteered for the day at the construction sites of two future single family homes at Newfield Avenue and Jefferson Street in Bridgeport. PALMco Energy also provided a financial donation of $3,000. The donation covered materials, professional project managers, and support for Habitat for Humanity's mission to make affordable homeownership a choice for everyone.
As part of its PALMco Cares program, PALMco employees spent the day measuring, sawing, securing the base structure, and installing the exterior siding, among other various tasks, to help complete the houses for the new owners. Habitat CFC keeps the costs low for families by using volunteer labor and corporate donations such as PALMco's partnership. Habitat CFC partners with volunteers and donors to build communities and improve lives for low-income families through the construction and preservation of affordable homes in stable and welcoming neighborhoods.
"A quality, affordable place to live is the foundation for stability that supports every other aspect of a family's life. As a family owned and operated business, we fully appreciate the value of a decent and safe place to call home," said Robert Palmese, President of PALMco Energy. "We are thrilled to both contribute financially and put our backs to work in helping a family become homeowners and further Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County's mission of building communities and improving lives through affordable housing.
"We are grateful to PALMco Energy and its employees for giving up a workday to help eliminate substandard housing and create home ownership possibilities for hard working local families. The team worked hard and really got into the spirit of giving back," said Stuart Adelberg, Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County's CEO.
Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International dedicated to building, preserving, and rehabilitating decent affordable housing for hard working, low income families. Participating families give 500 hours of sweat equity helping to build their homes and ultimately purchase them below cost with no down payment and an interest-free mortgage. Since its founding in 1985, Habitat CFC has built over 200 homes and helped over 1,000 family members.
This partnership is a part of PALMco Cares, an ongoing effort to give back to the communities in which PALMco serves. Launched in December 2013, PALMco Cares' inaugural campaign donates $1 per month for each participating gas and/or electric account to the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO). They have also recently donated school supply-filled backpacks to the Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County, NJ and funded environmental science programs through DonorsChoose.org.
