Palestinian Bid for Statehood Worsens War on Terror, 'Radical Islam' Author Explains
Denison Urges Steps U.S. Can Take to Mitigate Threat After Inevitable Failure of UN Petition
DALLAS, Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The inevitable failure of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' petition for the United Nations to recognize Palestinian statehood endangers the West, according to cultural apologist Dr. Jim Denison.
Should the United States use its veto power against the petition when the UN Security Council discusses it today, the author of "Radical Islam: What You Need to Know" says the move will escalate tensions between the U.S. and the Muslim world.
"Palestinians will become enraged with the West," Denison writes in a commentary, "What should America do about Palestine" (http://dftc.co/17), posted this weekend on the Denison Forum on Truth and Culture website (http://www.denisonforum.org).
"Radical Muslims will claim that the West is once again oppressing Muslims, and that they should attack Americans and Israelis in defense of their faith. Israel has already started arming their settlers in the West Bank area against expected reprisals. Tensions with the Muslim world will escalate," he said.
Denison urges the United States to take four steps to counter a certain surge in radical Islam's influence after the likely fate of the Palestinian statehood bid in the UN:
- Declare its intention to revive the Middle East peace process.
- Announce a plan for economic progress in the Arab world.
- Affirm and encourage moderate Muslims.
- Announce its clear, unambiguous commitment to Israel, which Denison reminds readers is "the only true democracy in the Middle East, and our most important military asset in the region."
"Our role in mediating peace would go a long way toward convincing the moderate Muslim world that we are not at war with Islam, a critical component in shrinking the numbers of jihadists around the world," Denison writes. "If we immediately declare our intention to mediate peace, we can turn our veto into positive leadership for Palestine and Israel."
"Radical Islam: What You Need to Know" is the first in the "Unlocking the Truth" series of books offering a spiritual perspective on key cultural issues facing America. Denison is also the author of six books, including "Wrestling with God: How Can I Love a God I'm Not Sure I Can Trust?" by Tyndale House Publishers.
Denison's free daily cultural commentary is made available worldwide to thousands of subscribers. His faith perspective sheds light on topics ranging from same-sex marriage to bioethics to lessons learned from the life of the controversial football star Michael Vick. Denison is available to discuss these and a wide selection of other timely topics.
