Packsize Gives Consumers A Voice On Green Packaging

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Although primarily focused on serving business customers in manufacturing, fulfillment/ecommerce, furniture, windows/doors, and printing, On Demand Packaging® provider Packsize International  regularly witnesses wasteful packaging abuses at the consumer endpoint. To help expose the enormity of this packaging problem, Packsize today announced the launch of its interactive site, www.packsize.com/green, inviting consumers to spread the word about wasteful packaging by sharing their "bad packaging" experiences to help carry a "fix it" message back to the business channel.

"Consumers worldwide threw away 76 million tons of packaging waste last year," said Packsize CEO Hanko Kiessner. " Imagine…if empty packaging space alone could be eliminated—which currently comprises 40 percent of all shipped boxing in one year— we'd save the planet more than 90 million trees annually."

Today, the corrugated box retains a preferred status ecologically speaking, and remains an environmentally preferable method for product delivery. Frequently manufactured using high percentages of secondary fiber, the use of corrugated diverts these materials from the municipal solid waste stream. The Packsize proposition puts the ability to make a right-sized box on the pack line, reducing the "air waste" and often petroleum-based fillers used for product protection.

"Using the smallest possible box for any given product shipped to the consumer does more than save trees," notes Kiessner.  "It reduces the number of planes, trains and trucks used to shipped the product too."

Packsize invites consumers to share their videos and photos on "The Bad Packaging Wall of Fame," where visitors are also asked to vote for their favorite example of wasteful packaging. On the last day of each month, Packsize will award a $100.00 (US) visa gift card to the owner of the "worst" example with the most votes.
