Pacific Reproductive Center Recognizes Medical Milestone at their Annual Baby Reunion on Father's Day Weekend
Local Fertility Center Recognizes the First Baby Born from a Chromosomally Tested Frozen Egg through In Vitro Fertilization in Southern California at their Annual Baby Reunion
TORRANCE, Calif., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Reproductive Center (PRC), a local fertility center, announced today that they will recognize the achievement of a medical milestone, the first baby born in Southern California from a chromosomally tested frozen egg. This achievement will be noted at their annual baby reunion celebration on Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 3720 Lomita Boulevard, PRC's Torrance location.
"Although egg freezing emerged over a decade ago, it was not considered a viable option for a successful live birth outcome until now," said Rifaat Salem, Medical Director of Pacific Reproductive Center and a pioneer in IVF treatment. "This birth marks a revolutionary medical achievement that paves the way for women to successfully preserve their fertility and helps prevent births with chromosomal abnormalities."
Today, the baby is six weeks old and healthy. She was born on May 3rd, conceived with the help of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment using frozen eggs that were screened through a new genetic test called Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH). CGH makes it possible to identify chromosomally normal eggs before they are frozen for later fertilization through IVF. The use of chromosomally normal eggs in IVF significantly reduces the risk of miscarriages and chromosomal abnormalities. This allows patients undergoing IVF to transfer fewer embryos with increased confidence that it will result in the live birth of a healthy singleton baby.
PRC is proud to recognize this medical achievement at the annual baby reunion on Father's Day weekend because this celebration holds a special meaning for PRC and all the guests who attend. Simply having the opportunity to celebrate Father's Day is truly a great blessing for these proud parents.
