The Pacific Beach Hotel is the first and only hotel in Hawaii to offer SNUBA – a combination of snorkeling and scuba diving – at its world famous three-story indoor Oceanarium. The SNUBA experience makes it easy for first-timers because no certification lessons are necessary, safe because there is never a worry about rough water or bad weather conditions and convenient because it is right across from Waikiki Beach on Kalakaua Avenue.
The 280,000-gallon Oceanarium at the Pacific Beach Hotel is three stories high with stingrays and hundreds of fish of 50 different species making the SNUBA experience a guaranteed success. SNUBA is as easy as snorkeling because the diver does not need an air tank but breathes through a mouthpiece regulator attached to a hose up to the surface. It is easy and a once in a lifetime adventure.
The experienced SNUBA team provides the wetsuit and all other necessary equipment. Anyone can walk into the hotel from Kalakaua Avenue and be ready to SNUBA in just a few minutes. Only two guests dive at a time accompanied by an experienced guide for up to 30 minutes. Divers can safely roam to a depth of 20 feet inside the Oceanarium and feed the fish. Your friends and family can watch through the glass in the Oceanarium restaurant and take photos of you.
Every night, the highlight is the mermaid dive show at 9:00 p.m. at the Pacific Beach Hotel. The whole family will enjoy both the show and the wonderful evening seafood and prime rib buffet offering 50 choices of salads, entrees and desserts.
The mermaid show each evening and daytime SNUBA are just part of the show at the Pacific Beach Hotel's Oceanarium restaurant where diners and visitors are treated to daily fish feeding scheduled at 12:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Often, our dinner guests plan ahead and arranged for a diver to display a special written message right in front of the surprised diner and 20 feet underwater. It is a photographers delight.
There are also diver curators in the Oceanarium at various other times either caring for fish or keeping the tank clean.
The cost is $75 per person. Pacific Beach Hotel guests also receive a free underwater photo of yourself as a memento of your dive. The dives are scheduled Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until Noon and 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
