PA Lottery: Nine Western Pennsylvania Co-Workers Claim $250,000 from Mega Millions
PITTSBURGH, April 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nine co-workers at Trau & Loevner Imprinted Sportswear of Pittsburgh won $250,000 from the Mega Millions drawing on March 19.
Lottery Area Manager Terri Hopkins today presented a ceremonial check to the group at Giant Eagle in North Versailles, where the ticket was purchased.
Sharing equally in the prize are the following winners:
- Gerald Allen of Glenshaw, Allegheny County
- Heather Ambler of North Versailles, Allegheny County
- Caroline Hellwig of Washington, Washington County
- Amy Kobosky of Delmont, Westmoreland County
- Howard Loevner of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County
- Erica Morrison of North Versailles, Allegheny County
- Brenda Pulice of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County
- Erika Scott of McKeesport, Allegheny County
- Margaret Varley of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County
Loevner is the owner of Trau & Loevner Imprinted Sportswear, which is a family-owned company with more than 100 years in business. The company is headquartered in Pittsburgh's East Liberty section.
The group's ticket from the March 19 drawing correctly matched all five white balls, 10-31-45-50-54, but not the yellow Mega Ball 25, for a second-tier prize of $250,000, less 25 percent withholding.
Heather Ambler said the group began buying Powerball tickets about 18 months ago and recently added Mega Millions tickets to its weekly purchases. Ambler has been organizing the group purchases and typically buys the tickets. However, Erica Morrison bought the winning ticket for the March 19 drawing.
"We told her, 'You're buying the tickets from now on,'" said Ambler.
How to Play Mega Millions: Mega Millions tickets cost $1 per play. Players pick five numbers from 1 to 56 and one number from 1 to 46 (The Mega Ball). Players can pick their own numbers or have numbers randomly selected by computer. For an extra $1 per play, players can add the Megaplier. Prior to the Mega Millions drawing, the Megaplier number – ranging from two to four – is randomly selected. Non-jackpot prizes from winning tickets with the Megaplier option will be multiplied by the Megaplier number.
The Multi-State Lottery Association, which manages the Powerball game, and the Mega Millions consortium reached an agreement in October 2009 on cross-selling Powerball and Mega Millions across U.S. lottery jurisdictions. Prior to the agreement, individual lotteries could only sell either Powerball or Mega Millions.
Mega Millions tickets are now sold in 38 participating jurisdictions; 35 states and the District of Columbia now sell both Mega Millions and Powerball tickets.
