PA Health & Wellness to provide alternative statewide insurance options in 2018
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Effective Jan. 1, 2018, PA Health & Wellness (PHW) will begin offering comprehensive access to healthcare and support services as part of the state's Community HealthChoices (CHC) program. When fully implemented, CHC is expected to provide services to more than 420,000 eligible Pennsylvania residents.
Under CHC, PHW will coordinate physical health and long-term services and supports (LTSS) to enhance the quality of medical care for those who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, older Pennsylvanians and individuals with disabilities.
Pennsylvania residents eligible to enroll for CHC are 21 or older who have both Medicare and Medicaid, or who receive LTSS through Medicaid because they need help with the activities of daily living. On October 2, 2017, the state began contacting eligible participants about their options.
"PA Health & Wellness focuses entirely and comprehensively on the region's underserved, low-income population," said CEO and president Eric Lisle. "We deliver on our mission, volunteering in the communities where we operate and where our participants live. Our goal is to provide wraparound care and additional benefits so our members are able to live healthier lifestyles."
PHW gives its members access to a broad network of hospitals and nursing facilities, while supporting service providers in the region. This is critically important to a Western Pennsylvania population increasingly facing limited health care choices because of restrictions associated with their current insurance plans.
PHW business practices and decisions are based on the community landscape and needs of its participants. For example:
- PHW has built strong partnerships with local and statewide officials, as well as advocacy and stakeholder groups to better operate and understand the needs of the communities it serves
- PHW provides live local points of contact for all health plan coverage questions
- PHW has committed to making a major investment by bringing hundreds of new jobs to the state
- PHW has committed to pay providers faster than the industry average
