PA Gaming Control Board Renews Operator's License for SugarHouse Casino
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 25, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today unanimously voted to renew the Category 2 Casino Operator's License of SugarHouse HSP Gaming, LP, operator of SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia.
The seven member Board determined that SugarHouse HSP Gaming, LP had fulfilled the obligations under its previously-approved casino operator's license and therefore qualified to have its license renewed for an additional three-year period.
Today's decision was based on a process utilized by the Board that enables both the operator and the public to provide information relevant to the renewal decision. A public input hearing was held last year at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia where personnel of SugarHouse Casino submitted exhibits and presented testimony on various aspects of the facility's operation since its last license renewal was granted in October 2011. The public was also permitted to provide testimony on the casino and its impact in the community.
In reaching its decision, the Board also reviewed testimony and received evidence at the hearing from local government officials, community groups and the PA State Police, along with the Gaming Control Board's Office of Enforcement Counsel, Bureau of Investigations and Enforcement, Office of Compulsive and Problem Gaming, and Casino Compliance.
Additionally, a public hearing was held in Harrisburg today to permit Board members to further question SugarHouse HSP Gaming representatives about any remaining issues prior to voting on the renewal.
Since its opening in September 2010, SugarHouse Casino has generated $1.5 billion in gross revenue from the play of slot machines and table games resulting in a return to the Commonwealth of more than $600 million in gaming tax revenue. SugarHouse Casino currently operates nearly 1,900 slot machines and over 130 table games, while employing 1,500 persons.
A video of today's hearing is available on the PGCB web site, www.gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov, along with a PowerPoint presentation provided at the meeting by SugarHouse Casino representatives.
The next meeting of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in the PGCB's Public Hearing Room located on the second floor of Strawberry Square in Harrisburg.
