PA Department of State announces social media initiative to celebrate women in government during National Women's History Month
HARRISBURG, Pa., March 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- March is National Women's History Month and this year's theme Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government recognizes women who have shaped America's history and its future through their public service and government leadership.
The Pennsylvania Department of State is launching the social media initiative #GovLikeAWoman to encourage women to run for office, work in government and engage in the civic life of their communities.
Beginning March 8, the Department will use Twitter (@PAStateDept) and (Facebook.com/PADepartmentofState) to highlight women in leadership positions within the agency and explain their roles in the Department.
"It is our hope that women, especially young women, will find this initiative inspiring and will consider pursuing a career in public service," said Deputy Secretary for Elections and Administration Marian K. Schneider.
Deputy Schneider, who was appointed by Governor Tom Wolf in January 2015, oversees and supports the Bureaus of Commissions, Elections and Legislation (BCEL); Finance and Operations (BFO); Human Resources (BHR); and Management Information Systems (BMIS).
"At the Department of State, we have a deep commitment to equality in hiring and opportunity," Secretary of State Pedro A. Cortés said. "Every day, I am grateful that so many highly talented and dedicated women have chosen to join our team."
The initiative will culminate with a Twitter Town Hall with Deputy Schneider on Tuesday, March 29, at 12 noon. Participants can join the conversation by using the hashtag #GovLikeAWoman.
