Pa. DCED: Commonwealth Financing Authority Now Accepting Applications to Support Water Infrastructure Projects
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) approved a motion to begin accepting applications for the Water Supply and Wastewater Infrastructure Program (PennWorks), which ensures safe water supply and proper wastewater infrastructure in Pennsylvania. The application period will remain open until June 28, 2013.
"Having up-to-date infrastructure systems and facilities is critical when companies are looking to expand or relocate," Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary C. Alan Walker said. "The PennWorks program will help communities develop shovel-ready sites to meet the needs of businesses and attract new investment and jobs."
Administered by the CFA, PennWorks provides grants to municipalities and municipal authorities and loans to municipalities, municipal authorities, industrial development corporations and investor-owned water or wastewater enterprises for projects which construct, expand or improve water and wastewater infrastructure. Improvements must be directly related to an economic development project.
The CFA plans to deploy approximately $17.5 million in funds that are available from projects that either did not use all of the awarded funding or did not proceed. The PennWorks funding can be awarded in either loans or grants for water and sewer improvements.
Eligible applicants are encouraged to contact Brian Eckert or Scott Dunkelberger at (717) 787-7120 to discuss potential projects before commencing the application process. The CFA anticipates acting on PennWorks applications at the September 17, 2013 board meeting.
