PA Cyber Charter School to graduate 1,300, ceremonies in 3 cities
PITTSBURGH, June 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The first of three commencement ceremonies for the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School Class of 2016 will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, announced CEO Dr. Michael J. Conti.
Graduation ceremonies also are planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at The Forum in the State Capitol Complex in Harrisburg, and at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Verizon Hall in Philadelphia's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
Conti said there are 1,300 graduates in the PA Cyber Class of 2016.
Class representatives chosen on merit by the school are to speak at each graduation site. They are: Michaela Abbs of Wexford, Pa., a daughter of Jason and Kristie Abbs, speaking at Pittsburgh; Amanda Lynn Biddle of Mill Hall, Pa., a daughter of Edward and Judy Biddle, speaking at Harrisburg, and Emily Kathleen Diehl of Green Lane, Pa., a daughter of Michael and Kathleen Diehl, speaking at Philadelphia.
Abbs is a member of the PA Cyber chapter of the National Honor Society. She was student council treasurer, French Club vice president, a member of the Spanish Club and participant in the Impact Volunteering Program. She plans to attend the honors college at Idaho State University, majoring in nuclear and mechanical engineering.
Biddle is a member of the National Honor Society and student council, volunteers for the Special Olympics, and hopes to become a special education teacher. She is to attend Lock Haven University to pursue a degree in early childhood education with a dual certification in special education.
Diehl is a writer and photographer who plans to attend Montgomery County Community College in the fall. She hopes to become a published author, start her own photography business, and also reside in Spain for a time to assist in community outreach programs. She was a four-year member of the PA Cyber student photography club.
This will be the 16th graduating class for PA Cyber. The first statewide K-12 cyber charter school in Pennsylvania, PA Cyber graduated 16 seniors in its first class in 2001.
