Tony Horton To Call for "Functional Fitness" in DoD's War on Obesity
WASHINGTON, July 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fitness trainer Tony Horton, creator of the P90X Extreme Home Fitness System, will address the National Press Club at a Speakers Series "Boot Camp" luncheon on Friday, July 16. Horton will discuss the need for a comprehensive "functional fitness" program adapted to the demands of a modern military, declining physical fitness levels among U.S. service members, and the impact of the national obesity epidemic on the pool of potential military recruits.

Horton's fitness system has been used by military service members from Andrews Air Force Base to Balad in Northern Iraq. Horton was hosted by the Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) Command to work out with U.S. airmen and soldiers and military dependents based at Camp Darby Army Base, Army Garrison Vicenza, and Aviano U.S. Air Force Base in Italy. He was recommended for the Joint Chiefs Outreach Campaign (JCOC) and visited the U.S. Navy Base in Norfolk, VA, the U.S. Army Base at Ft. Bragg, N.C., the Marine training facility at Parris Island, S.C., and the Hurlburt and McDill Air Force Bases in Florida.
The National Press Club event will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. with remarks by Tony Horton, followed by a question-and-answer session, and a demonstration of a "Boot Camp" workout designed for the military.
