DALLAS, Aug. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Ozarka® Brand Natural Spring Water awarded two $10,000 scholarships and three local $2,500 scholarships to five students in Texas who are pursuing degrees and careers in science. Since 2002, more than $350,000 in scholarships have been granted through Ozarka's "Every Drop Counts" Earth Science Scholarship Program.
Statewide, Ozarka awards annual $10,000 scholarships in late summer to two qualified Texas students who wish to major in hydrogeology, or other environmental science that focuses on water conservation and preservation, at a four-year college or university. Additionally, Ozarka awards local scholarships to students where the company has operations. In Wood County and Walker County, three $2,500 scholarships are awarded annually to qualified seniors at Harmony High School, Hawkins High School and Huntsville High School.
"It is truly a blessing to have companies and organizations like Ozarka in the community who recognize the value of supporting our students' future endeavors," said Amanda Weiss, Hawkins High School College Counselor. "Education truly is the key to a brighter future for our students. The scholarships that are awarded help our students reach their post-secondary goals when sometimes it wouldn't be possible otherwise. Specifically, the scholarship from Ozarka has helped Hawkins students for the past 16 years to take that first step towards making their dreams a reality."
"I am so grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the Ozarka $10,000 'Every Drop Counts' Earth Science Scholarship," said scholarship winner and University of Texas at Austin student Anthony Edgington. "I see this award as an influential resource for accomplishing my next academic goals of publishing an undergraduate thesis and pursuing a graduate degree in earth sciences. This scholarship will provide the necessary funds to complete my undergraduate degree in Geosystems Engineering and Hydrogeology and continue studying what interests me about the environment. I am eager to see where this opportunity will take me!"
"Ozarka is committed to environmental leadership and innovation and we believe that environmental education is critically important for the future," said Ozarka Natural Resource Manager Trey Mixon. "This scholarship fund was created to perpetuate the goal of preserving and protecting our natural environment through the leadership and creativity of promising young students such as the ones we've selected this year. Their interests and pursuits of careers in the earth sciences matches those of many of our own employees, whose daily jobs are to manage and maintain the health and integrity of our water resources and the surrounding lands that support our springs. We are very pleased to help these students with their college educations."
