RIDGEFIELD, Conn., April 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Owl Computing Technologies, Inc., a cybersecurity solutions provider, has released a whitepaper describing how its DualDiode Technology supports the cybersecurity strategies laid out by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to defend Industrial Control Systems (ICSs).
These strategies, described in a report issued by the DHS, FBI and NSA on defending critical infrastructure from cyberattacks, recommend the use of data diodes for several of the strategies. The report also notes that 98%, of the hundreds of attacks reported to the ICS-CERT (Industrial Control Systems – Cyber Emergency Response Team), could have been prevented if these strategies had been implemented.
"We are encouraged to see that the DHS is recommending data diodes as a part of an overall Defense In Depth strategy," stated Dr. Ronald Mraz, CEO & President of Owl. "No single product can protect against all manner of attack, however we are proud that our DualDiode products are deployed and protecting critical infrastructure just as described in the report."
The strategies described by the DHS paper ("Seven Steps to Effectively Defend Industrial Control Systems") cover network segmentation, white listing, reduced attack surfaces, secure remote monitoring, authentication, management of patches & updates and remote access. The Owl white paper breaks down each of the strategies and describes, with diagrams, how the DualDiode Technology can play a part in each one. The whitepaper concludes by detailing how each of the seven strategies is also incorporated into the architecture of the Owl data diode products; thus providing a data diode solution that not only helps critical infrastructure operators defend their industrial control systems but one that also defends itself from attack.
