RIDGEFIELD, Conn., June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Owl Computing Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of deterministic data diode cybersecurity solutions, is proud to announce that Dr. Ronald Mraz, President and CEO, will be speaking at the upcoming ISA POWID/EPRI symposium on the subject of data diodes. Dr. Mraz will be presenting a holistic overview of data diode technology including the difference between generic and intelligent data diodes.
The ISA Power Industry Division (POWID) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) have joined together to present the 59th edition of the ISA POWID/EPRI Symposium. The Symposium will be held June 27-30 in Charlotte, NC at the Electric Power Research Institute Conference Center. The event provides power generation industry leaders with information on the latest innovations including cybersecurity, SmartGrid, controls, and regulatory issues.
During the presentation, Dr. Mraz will address the use of data diodes for network segmentation and cybersecurity of industrial control systems. He will be focusing specifically on the Department of Homeland Security's new guidance for protecting Industrial Control Systems. The DHS recommends seven strategies (see DHS Seven Strategies) to address cybersecurity threats, including the use of data diodes, and Dr. Mraz will describe how these recommendations can be implemented and are being employed today.
Owl has been serving power generation, transmission and distribution operators for many years with its data diode-based Perimeter Defense Solutions. These solutions can be deployed in a variety of environments (nuclear, fossil, hydro, substations, etc.) and are helping operators meet the requirements of NERC-CIP 002-009, the NRC and NIST SP800-82.
"As demonstrated by the DHS paper, data diodes are becoming more prevalent and important in cybersecurity architectures," noted Dr. Ronald Mraz, President and CEO of Owl. "We are always excited about the opportunity to share best practices with operators and show them how data diodes are being used today to protect a variety of critical infrastructure environments."
