Ovum: "Tunable optics are key for NG-PON2 success"
BASE event at OFC 2018 will examine NG-PON2 and its readiness for deployments
FREMONT, Calif., March 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The success of NG-PON 2 will depend on the availability of low cost, reliable, tunable optics, especially as Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Terminal (ONT) shipments begin to increase, according to Ovum analyst Julie Kunstler.
This is the message Kunstler will deliver at the Broadband Forum's BASE San Diego event, which will be held during the OFC Conference in San Diego on Thursday, March 15 from 8.30am to 3.30pm. The workshop will provide an update from the Forum's NG-PON2 Council on the technology's development, advantages, standardization and readiness to be used in the deployment of next-generation access networks.

Kunstler will also tell delegates at the BASE event that OLT and ONT shipments will begin to ramp up this year, with Ovum's PON equipment forecast for 2018 to 2023 showing significant Compound Annual Growth Rates (CAGRs).
