Overton Moore Properties (OMP) Announces Partnership With YouthBuild
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Los Angeles-based Overton Moore Properties (OMP) announced today a partnership with the YouthBuild creating a construction internship program.
The paid construction internship program will provide YouthBuild graduates with the opportunity to perform construction skills and learn about the construction industry as a career. For unemployed low-income young adults who left high school without a diploma, this program provides an opportunity for young adults to gain the skills they need for employment and become leaders in their communities. Students will be placed on new construction projects that OMP is developing in Southern California. "When interviewing these individuals, we were really inspired and impressed with their credentials, motivation and aspirations. It reinforced our desire to get with YouthBuild and encourage other developers to participate in the program," noted Timur Tecimer, CEO of OMP.
OMP in association with General Contractor Millie and Severson, KCB Builders and Inland Concrete Constructors have recently implemented the internship. The program recently hired six interns from the YouthBuild Charter programs in Compton and Pacoima, CA. Four of the interns will be working on The Point at Simi Valley Business Center, a 142,000 square foot, four building, for sale, development project representing 30,000-42,000 square feet. Two interns have been placed on 1720 135th Street, a 102,000 square foot speculative industrial building in Gardena, CA. "This provides important exposure for YouthBuild students. This is a workplace-based learning experience they understand what it takes to have a successful career in the construction industry. YouthBuild appreciates this partnership with OMP," said Daryl Wright, Vice President for Employer Partnerships at YouthBuild USA.
The goal of the partnership is to expose these students who have elected on their own to make a change in their lives a career path in the construction industry. "We are delighted about this partnership and hopefully can assist these young adults in choosing a career path," commented Michael Johnson, Vice President of Development at OMP. All of OMP's institutional partners have encouraged and embraced the partnership. OMP was introduced to the YouthBuild by one of its institutional partners, PGIM Real Estate who has also spearheaded an initiative with YouthBuild on a national basis.
