Outlook Upbeat for Texas Construction Starts in 2010
Construction starts to increase within and outside major metropolitan areas, according to McGraw-Hill Construction report
NEW YORK, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Construction, part of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), has released the 2010 Texas Construction Outlook. "In 2010, the value of Texas construction starts will advance 16% to $52.5 billion," states the report. Growth is expected for the each of the major metropolitan areas within Texas: Austin is expected to climb 30%, Houston 17%, Dallas 16%, El Paso 8%, and San Antonio 6%.
Highlights of the report conclude:
- Housing starts in Texas are expected to advance 31% to $21.8 billion in 2010, with single family housing growing 31% and multifamily housing gaining 34%.
- Nonresidential construction starts will slip 1% to $17.6 billion, suffering from declines in commercial and industrial starts.
- Federal stimulus funding will assist public works and utilities construction as starts rebound 21% to $13.1 billion in 2010.
