FORT COLLINS, Colo., July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- OtterBox® CEO Brian Thomas was selected as the Mid-Market CEO of the Year for 2014 by CEO Connection.
The CEO Connection Mid-Market Awards are designed to honor the most deserving mid-market companies, those with between $100 million and $3 billion in annual revenue. Nominations were accepted from the community, then vetted to determine finalists though a rigorous application process incorporating the opinions of academic, media and business leaders.
"Collectively mid-market companies account for $10 trillion annually of the $30 trillion U.S. private sector gross receipts and 30 million jobs, and we need to learn more about how these companies are able to keep their edge in an increasingly competitive market," said Ken Beck, CEO of CEO Connection. "OtterBox, under Thomas' leadership, is a shining testament to the important role mid-market companies play in growing our economy."
Thomas joined OtterBox in 2003 when it was a $2 million niche business manufacturing waterproof boxes and cases for PDAs. As the company grew, so did Thomas' role in directing company strategy. He was promoted to director of sales and marketing, then chief operating officer, president and finally into his current role as CEO.
As CEO, Thomas is responsible for leading global expansion efforts and is the chief visionary in positioning OtterBox as an innovation technology company primed to extend the company's premium product offerings. OtterBox has grown revenue more than 1,000 percent during the past three years and employs more than 800 full-time employees in the U.S. alone.
Thomas will be honored alongside Twitter Inc., the Mid-Market Company of the Year; Julie Smolyansky with Lifeway Foods Inc., the Mid-Market Rising Star; and Bert Jacobs of Life is Good Inc., the Social Impact Award recipient, during the CEO Connection Mid-Market Awards at the CEO Connection Mid-Market Convention on Oct. 20 at the Wharton School in Philadelphia.
