Otolaryngology Chairman Appointed at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary

New York Medical College Announces Addition of Edward J. Shin, M.D. to Nation's Foremost Specialized Otolaryngology Facilities

VALHALLA, N.Y., Jan. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New York Medical College has appointed Edward J. Shin, M.D., as chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (NYEEI), an affiliate of New York Medical College in New York City. Dr. Shin, who is also professor of clinical otolaryngology, had been serving as acting chairman since 2011.

Dr. Shin has worked in several capacities at NYEEI, including director of otolaryngology resident education, director of the ENT clinics and attending physician in the faculty practice. His clinical interests include head and neck cancer, endocrine salivary gland disease and sinus disease.

Dr. Shin graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in biology with high distinction, and from Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology at the University of California-San Francisco Medical Center. He also received a master's degree in clinical research at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

After residency, Dr. Shin served as assistant professor of otolaryngology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and regional director of the Department of Otolaryngology at Queens and Elmhurst Hospital Center. He is the recipient of many honors and awards from Stanford School of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine and NYEEI, including Teacher of the Year. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters, and is a national presenter.
