Otoe-Missouria Tribe Celebrates Prosperity & Partnerships
TULSA, Okla., Nov. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With the holidays approaching, Otoe-Missouria Chairman John Shotton today offered his reflections on the unprecedented prosperity the tribe has enjoyed over the last year thanks to its successful businesses ventures and key partnerships, especially in the area of ecommerce.
"Our success this year can be measured by the critical services we have been able to provide our people such as early childhood education, employment training, health care, elders services, housing and tribal infrastructure enhancements and child and family protective services," Chairman Shotton said. "These services are funded with revenues generated by our tribe and the businesses we operate. In fact, our ecommerce businesses generate almost half of our non-federal income and are a major employer in our area."
Shotton noted that one of the tribe's most successful partnerships with an outside service provider is with the MacFarlane Group, a company with offices in neighboring Kansas and also Las Vegas, that supplies back-office support for one of the tribe's online lending businesses.
"The Otoe-Missouria has had a long and beneficial relationship with MacFarlane Group which provides critical supportservices that we cannot yet offer on the Reservation, such as human resource outsourcing and call center operations that scale on demand," said Chairman Shotton. "Our successful ecommerce ventures have made possible the many cultural and tribal assistance programs we offer and our relationship with MacFarlane Group is one of the reasons for this success."
Chairman Shotton said the Internet has been a lifesaver for the tribe, providing geographically isolated tribes like his the ability to build tribally-owned enterprises that quickly contribute to its operating budgets. Chairman Shotton said with the continued success of the tribe's ecommerce businesses, the economic health of the tribe looks strong and prosperous for the coming year.
