Otis Expands SkyRise® High-Rise Elevator Product Family
Self-Climbing SkyBuild™ Elevator Becomes Standard Option to Speed Construction
SHANGHAI, May 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Otis Elevator introduces the innovative new SkyBuild self-climbing construction elevator, which enables builders to complete high-rise projects faster while reducing costs. The SkyBuild elevator will be a standard option in the company's expanded line of global, fully integrated suite of high-rise solutions – the SkyRise elevator system. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
"The Otis SkyRise product family combines a refined passenger experience with state-of-the-art elevator technologies and support our customers can count on," said Bora Gulan, vice president, Global Major Projects and Key Accounts, Otis. "Our dedicated global major projects teams, together with our R&D engineers, have the deep knowledge and expertise that comes from experience on some of the world's most iconic buildings to make high-rise projects reality. Our SkyBuild option now offers customers even more value with an elevator system that rises with the building – quickly and easily jumping one floor at a time to meet the requirements and pace of any project."
The self-climbing SkyBuild elevator joins the SkyRise family as a time-saving option. Installed at the beginning of a building's construction, the SkyBuild elevator allows movement of crews and tools quickly and safely – without an external lift or exposure to weather. Its unique hydraulic piston system enables it to quickly climb one floor at a time as the building rises. Once construction is complete, the SkyBuild elevator quickly transitions for immediate service as a SkyRise elevator. SkyBuild offers convenience and agility and can reduce costs.
"SkyBuild was the smart solution for us. It shortened our schedule and reduced our costs," said Philippe Rouchette, director, Tour Granite, Paris, VINCI Construction, France. "The Otis team brought tremendous knowledge to the job."
Each SkyRise installation integrates advanced technologies to promote the seamless, safe operation of the entire system. The sustainable design reduces space requirements and energy use compared to conventional systems.
Otis also offers additional options with the SkyRise product family to enhance people movement. The CompassPlus® dispatching technology can move people up to 50 percent faster than conventional dispatching systems. The eCall™ smartphone app summons elevators remotely. OptiSense™ traffic management system helps direct elevators to floors where they are needed most. And our Otis Plan™ traffic analysis tool enables us to advise clients on the best elevator configurations based on projected use.
Otis offers customized service solutions to meet the unique needs of any high-rise project, including advanced digital diagnostic tools and the eService customer portal that provides continuous real-time performance, maintenance and other critical information.
The Otis High-Rise Center of Excellence will be co-located in the company's new Shanghai Engineering R&D Center facility, also announced today. The new facility will be part of a network of research facilities and test towers that span four continents.
Otis has been playing an instrumental role in elevating iconic high-rise buildings around the world, including the 828-meter Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world's tallest building; the 599-meter Ping'An Financial Center in Shenzhen, one of the highest buildings in China when completed this year; the 555-meter Lotte World Tower in Seoul, the tallest in South Korea; the 553-meter CN Tower in Toronto, the highest in North America; and the 324-meter Eiffel Tower, the iconic symbol of Paris.
Every day, Otis moves more than 2 billion people through the world's urban landscapes and maintains approximately 2 million elevators and escalators in more than 200 countries and territories.
