Otherworldly 32,000 Square Foot Immersive Art Experience Opening Soon in Columbus
Mysteries unfold as you explore over 50 scenes filled with large-scale interactive art, mixed reality playgrounds, puzzles and secret passageways.
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Imagine touching an orb of light and suddenly the whole environment shifts. Welcome to Otherworld, a 32,000 square foot immersive art installation opening in Columbus. Mysteries unfold as you explore over 50 scenes filled with large-scale interactive art, mixed reality playgrounds, puzzles and secret passageways. It's an all new kind of art and storytelling experience where visitors are encouraged to freely explore and interact with a surreal world of science fiction and fantasy.
You have volunteered as a beta tester at Otherworld Industries, a pioneering tech company specializing in alternate realm tourism. But upon arrival at the desolate research facility, you're left on your own… Exploring restricted laboratories inevitably leads you to discover a gateway to an alternate world of bioluminescent dreamscapes inhabited by alien flora, primordial creatures, and expanses of abstract light and geometry.
The immersive narrative is driven by a multitude of cutting-edge technologies. From holograms to holodecks, 52 projectors, dozens of motion tracking cameras and over two kilometers of LEDs will create spectacular interactive visual effects. Otherworld's mosaic of tech will engage visitors in a one-of-a-kind immersive experience.
The installation is being made by over 30 creatives with backgrounds in programming, metalworking, digital fabrication, animation, textiles, sculpting and other disciplines. The team has worked on projects including SXSW, Burning Man, museum exhibits, haunted attractions, theme parks and escape rooms.
Ideation and design began September 2017 and construction started in May 2018. The experience is scheduled to open in March 2019, permanently residing at a 41,000 square foot building in East Columbus.
The team is also looking to inspire the next generation of creators. The Otherworld Education Center will provide school groups with creative courses and resources to strengthen arts and entrepreneurship within the community.
The project has a $2M production budget, financed by Chase Bank and private investors. The group hopes to raise an additional $500k to fully realize their vision of Otherworld. They are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to help hire more artists, add layers of detail, and enrich the narrative content.
